Five reasons Tottenham will not win the Premier League title

Tottenham destroyed West Brom yesterday 4-0 to move into second place seven points behind Chelsea and are being talked of as serious title contenders, however there are very good reasons why they will not be top come the end of the season.

Below we list five reasons why we cannot see Spurs becoming champions this season.

1) They always bottle it

They have a history of bottling it, usually when it comes to overhauling bitter London rivals Arsenal, time and time again they are in the driving seat and time and time again they fall short, last season was the classic example, getting thrashed on the final day by a relegated team when a win would have guaranteed them to finish above the Gunners.

2) Over reliance on Harry Kane for goals

It is no coincidence that when Kane is out Spurs struggle big time for goals and they have not yet bought a player that can cover for him, Janssen and Son have failed to show they can deputise for the England man and any injury or suspension to Kane could have a devastating impact.

3) Inexperience of Mauricio Pochettino

His inexperience showed last season when Spurs fell badly on the run in, he was unable to stem the rot that had set in, especially in the game against Chelsea when they were 2-0 up and cruising. A more experienced manager would have managed that game and the games that preceded it far better. He is getting better but this season is probably too early for him and the chances are he will make critical errors of judgement at crucial moments.

4) Too much competition

Chelsea are already seven points clear and at the time of writing this article only six points separate Spurs from sixth placed United and that could easily be reduced by the end of today, it is not just Chelsea that Tottenham have to contend with but Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd. The competition is so fierce that one cannot escape the feeling that Tottenham will find at least one team too good for them to overhaul.

5) They draw far too often

However, last season Tottenham had more draws than any of the other top six teams (Chelsea actually had more but were not top six). Already this season they have more draws than the other top six sides and that has been an ongoing issue with Spurs, games they should be winning they end up drawing and unless they do better at converting draws into wins against the smaller team they will find their title challenge fatally undermined.
