Mata and Herrera welcome potential Griezmann arrival

The speculations linking Atletico Madrid striker to a move to Old Trafford just won’t go away. The 25-year-old France international is attracting the attention of the 3-time Champions League winners, and Spanish internationals, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera will welcome the addition of the former Real Sociedad man.

The pair were excellent in the Europa League Final on Wednesday against Ajax, as goals from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan ensured success in the only competition missing on United’s trophy cabinet and with it, a place in next season’s Champions League group stages.

The qualification for the lucrative Champions League will not be lost on Griezmann, who has grown frustrated with Atletico Madrid’s inability to win the major titles ahead of the likes of bitter rivals, Real Madrid and also Barcelona.

Herrera, who was the Man of the Match in Stockholm said, Cadena Ser, via Squawka: “He (Griezmann) is a star and all the teams in the world would want him. “I’ve said it in the past, after Cristiano Ronaldo and (Lionel) Messi, he is in that group of those that can become their possible successors.” Mata said jokingly, Griezmann is a great player and I like great players.

He has quality, he gets goals. I don’t know him, but he seems like a good person so – I don’t know what will happen, but of course, I like him.”

The 25-year-old Griezmann is a forward capable of playing anywhere across the front three and scored 26 goals in 53 appearances for Diego Simeone’s men this season.
