Almost done: Source confirms United are closing in completing first summer signing

While Man United fans are busy and closely monitoring the latest development concerning the potential transfers of Antoine Griezmann, James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale to the club, the Manchester Evening
News is reporting that the Old Trafford outfits are closing in to sign Monaco star Fabinho this summer.

Man United finished sixth in the Premier League last season but maneuver their way into the Champions League following their triumph in the Europa League.

And with that in mind, as well as competing for the Premier League title next season, Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a defensive midfielder to partner Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in the midfield.

With Michael Carrick nearing the end of his career and Morgan Schneiderlin sold to Everton this January, Mourinho is left with Marouane Fellani as the only option available for the position and the
Portuguese boss has identified Fabinho as the perfect addition needed and a deal is imminent.

Mourinho is reportedly making frantic efforts to secure the signature of the defensive midfielder after losing Bernardo Silva to rival Man City.

The Brazil international who was instrumental to Monaco winning the Ligue 1 title as well as reaching the semi-final of the Champions League would cost United up to €45 million.

Fabinho moved to Monaco three years ago for £6 million and he is under contract with them until 2021 so it will require a good fee from United to successfully lure him away from the Ligue 1 champions

The 23-year-old is versatile and can play as a right-back or a wing-back, he will perfectly fit in to Mourinho’s rotation policy.
