He’s not played for Nigeria since last summer’s World Cup but is believed to return to the national team ahead of this summer’s African Cup of Nations.

“Mikel has not played for a while now.  I believe he wants to secure his job situation before he will worry about the Super Eagles.”

The deal is confirmed to be on a short term basis, and the midfielder will wear the No.2 shirt at the Riverside Stadium.

It’s safe to say that the former Stamford Bridge favourite is well decorated. The popular Nigerian midfielder has previously won the Premier League twice,  he’s a three-time FA Cup winner and the owner of Champions League, Europa League and League Cup winners’ medals.

He moved to Asia and the Chinese Super League in January 2017 after 10 successful seasons, and 374 appearances for the South West London club.
