Premier League Best XI of expiring contracts in 2020

A number of top Premier League players will see their contracts expire at the end of the current season. Clubs from outside of England can currently sign Premier League players that have entered the final six months of their respective deals.

With a number of excellent Premier League talents out of contract in the summer of 2020, we look at a Premier League best XI of expiring contracts.

Goalkeeper – Ben Foster

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster gets the nod in goal. Although Joe Hart and Claudio Bravo will both see their contracts end, Foster has been a part of Watford’s resurgence under Nigel Pearson.

Defender – Jan Vertonghen

Tottenham Hotspur have been unable to re-sign Jan Vertonghen and it looks likely that the Belgian will leave for pastures new. Japhet Tanganga started against Liverpool on Saturday, which means Jose Mourinho is already looking beyond Vertonghen.

Defender – Scott Dann

Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann is 32, but can still play against top-flight attackers. Dann has played over 130 league games for Crystal Palace showing his durability.

Defender – Leighton Baines

Everton full-back Leighton Baines is nearing the end of his career but could drop down to the Championship and still do a job next season. Now 35, Baines has played just six times for the Toffees in the league this season.

Defender – Nathaniel Clyne

Liverpool right-back would have played a significant role this season. However, a serious knee injury in preseason has him on the shelf. Clyne could be back by the end of the season but is doubtful to return to Anfield next term.

Midfield – Christian Eriksen

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen will not re-sign with the club and is ready to leave for an unknown destination. His performances have been awful this season and is simply playing out his contract.

Midfield – Adam Lallana

Adama Lallana has been mostly injury-free this season. Due to his fitness, Lallana contributed to Liverpool’s brilliant run in the Premier League this term. He could still earn a new contract.

Midfield – Nemanja Matic

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has been more hit than miss this term due to injury. He could remain at the club due to a few members of the squad being free agents.

Midfield – David Silva

Manchester City midfielder David Silva was one of the players that turned the club into a top Premier League team. The 34-year-old is linked with a move to David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the summer

Forward – Olivier Giroud

Olivier Giroud is a World Cup, FA Cup and Europa League winner, but his time at Chelsea is up. He will leave in the summer, if not before then, with clubs in Italy and the United States queuing up for him.

Forward – Willian

Another Chelsea forward could be on his way out. Willian has been linked with a move to Barcelona and could be a significant signing for the Catalans. Willian could still remain at Stamford Bridge, but it is unlikely.
