Deal close: Man United close in completing first summer signing

According to reports in Turkish media, Manchester United midfield powerhouse, Marouane Fellaini is close to a deal with Super Lig outfit, Trabzonspor, according to reports from Turkish-football.

The 29-year-old Belgian is keen to leave Old Trafford ahead of a World Cup year despite featuring in enough games for Jose Mourinho this season. It is believed that the Portuguese tactician is looking at a number of central midfield options, in what may spell the end of Fellaini’s four year association with the club.

Fotomac via Turkish football reports that Trabzonspor are close to signing the former Everton man, though the transfer fee hasn’t been agreed by both clubs.

The Turkish giants are looking at a marquee signing for next season in what will be their 50th anniversary, and they believe the Belgian encapsulates all that they want in a football player: fearless, passionate and extremely loyal.

Fellaini has only a year left on his Old Trafford deal, and there have not been talks to extend that contract, giving rise to speculation that he is not viewed as an indispensable member to the first team.

He joined United in the summer of 2013, as David Moyes’s first signing in what was a disastrous time for the Scottish manager at the club, and became the subject of ridicule from majority of the Old Trafford faithful. However, he has picked himself up and become a key component of Jose Mourinho’s first team in recent months. He has scored 15 times in 133 appearances for the 20-time English champions.
